Chances are, you know someone who has been incarcerated, or you yourself have been incarcerated. And once out of prison, life can be extremely difficult. Most employers won’t give a convicted felon a second chance. The road to moving past incarceration is even more difficult for juveniles and young adults.
Current data shows:
- 31,900 youth are confined daily in the U.S.
- Youth of color represent 47% of boys and 39% of girls in confinement.
- Over 60% of confined youth have diagnosed mental health conditions.
- Early justice involvement is strongly correlated with adult incarceration, unemployment, and long-term instability.
The FTG Foundation is trying to change all that
The ForTheGood Foundation is launching a comprehensive initiative to address youth incarceration — a systemic challenge with long-term social, economic, and community impact.
Research identifies several evidence-based interventions that significantly reduce recidivism and improve outcomes:
- Mentorship and consistent adult relationships
- Trauma-informed mental health care
- Restorative justice and diversion programs
- Life-skills and workforce readiness training
- Family stabilization and wraparound support
The ForTheGood Foundation will implement these proven strategies through community-based programming focused on mentorship, life-skills development, emotional support, and early intervention.
Our mission is to restore hope and change trajectories for youth impacted by incarceration or high-risk environments. Our vision is a future where every young person has equitable access to support systems that promote stability, opportunity, and long-term success.
